Terms & Conditions
This page covers two things: the terms for using this website, and the booking conditions that apply when you book travel through The Latitude Compass — who your contract is with, how payment works, and what financial protection applies to what you buy. It is a summary: the full terms that govern your booking are set out in the InteleTravel UK documents linked in section 2 below.
1. Who I am
Darren Bennett trading as The Latitude Compass is an Independent Travel Advisor affiliated with InteleTravel ABTA P7384.
I trade as The Latitude Compass and I act as an Independent Travel Advisor affiliated with InteleTravel UK. I am not an employee, director or representative of InteleTravel, and I am not a direct member of ABTA or an ATOL holder. My contact details are at the end of this page.
2. Which terms apply to your booking
The terms that govern your booking depend on what you book. Both documents are published by InteleTravel UK and set out your rights and theirs in full:
- InteleTravel UK — Package Holiday Terms and Conditions, which apply where you book a package holiday. This is the document that covers deposits, balances, price changes, cancellation, complaints and financial protection for packages.
- InteleTravel UK — Agency Terms of Business, which apply where you book a single travel service such as a hotel, car hire or a flight on its own.
I will always confirm before you book which of these applies, who your contract is with, and provide or point you to the relevant terms. I will also link them on your quotation.

3. How I work with you
When you book travel through me, I arrange for you to enter into a contract with the principal or supplier providing your travel services (for example a tour operator, airline, cruise line or accommodation provider). Where InteleTravel packages the arrangements, your contract is with InteleTravel UK as the package organiser. Your contract is never with me personally, and I do not provide the travel services myself.
As an agent I accept no responsibility for the acts or omissions of the supplier, or for the services they provide. The supplier's own terms and conditions apply to your booking and I will give you a copy or a link so you can read them before you commit.
I plan, book and look after your trip from first conversation to the final taxi: research, recommendations, booking, documents, changes and any problems along the way.
4. Prices, deposits and payment
Prices, deposits and balance dates are set by the supplier or, for packages, by InteleTravel UK, and will be confirmed to you in writing before you book. Where a deposit applies, the balance must be paid by the date notified to you; if it is not, the supplier may cancel the booking and apply its cancellation charges.
Payments always go directly to the travel supplier or to InteleTravel UK. I am not authorised to accept payment into a personal account — no cash, no cheques made out to me, no transfers to a personal account. If anyone asks you to pay a travel booking that way, please stop and contact me or InteleTravel UK customer service immediately.
Where I charge a planning or service fee for complex itineraries, it is quoted and agreed in writing before any work begins, and is separate from the cost of your travel arrangements.
5. Changes and cancellations
Any request to change or cancel must be sent to me in writing and takes effect when I receive it. Suppliers apply their own amendment and cancellation charges, which can be up to 100% of the cost of the arrangements and are set out in their terms.
Where I have charged a planning fee, it is separate from supplier charges. Because it covers work already carried out on your behalf, it is not refundable once that work has begun; I will confirm the position in writing before I start.
Where a change or cancellation is possible, I will always tell you the cost before anything is confirmed.
6. Travel insurance
Many suppliers require you to hold travel insurance as a condition of booking, and I strongly advise it in every case. A policy should cover cancellation by you, medical treatment and repatriation, loss of baggage and money, and other unexpected expenses. Please read the policy and disclose everything it asks about — failure to disclose relevant information can affect your cover.
If you would like help choosing a policy, I can suggest options, but the decision and the cover remain yours.
7. Financial protection
Some of the flights and flight-inclusive holidays on this website are financially protected by the ATOL scheme. However, ATOL protection does not apply to all holiday and travel services listed on this website. This website will provide you with information on the protection that applies in the case of each holiday and travel service offered before you make your booking. Please see our booking conditions for information, or for more information about financial protection and the ATOL Certificate go to: www.caa.co.uk
When you pay for a booking that is financially protected by the ATOL scheme, you will be supplied with an ATOL Certificate. Please ask for it, and check that everything you booked — flights, hotels and other services — is listed on it. If you do not receive an ATOL Certificate, the booking is not ATOL protected. ATOL protection does not apply to accommodation-only bookings, car hire, airport parking, theatre tickets or other non-flight services.
InteleTravel UK is a member of ABTA (membership number P7384). Package holidays sold through InteleTravel are covered by a scheme protecting your money if the supplier fails. Other services, such as a hotel or flight on its own, may not be protected — please ask me what protection applies to your particular booking and I will confirm it in writing.
More information about ATOL and the ATOL Certificate: www.caa.co.uk. More information about ABTA and financial protection: abta.com.
8. Passports, visas and health
I can give you general information about passport, visa and health requirements for your destination, but it is your responsibility to check and meet the specific requirements for everyone travelling, including any transit countries. Requirements can change between booking and departure, so please check again before you travel.
Most countries now require passports to be valid for at least six months after your return date. Please also check that the names on your booking match your passport exactly, as airlines may refuse travel or charge for corrections. For health advice for your specific circumstances, please speak to your own doctor or a travel health clinic.
9. Accessibility and special requirements
If you or anyone travelling with you has accessibility, mobility, dietary, medical or other requirements, please tell me as early as possible so I can check suitability with the supplier before booking. I will always treat this information confidentially and share only what is needed to arrange your travel.
If a supplier cannot meet a requirement, I will tell you before you book rather than leave you to find out on arrival.
10. Complaints and dispute resolution
If something goes wrong, please tell me as soon as possible so I can try to put it right while you are still travelling. On your return, please put your complaint in writing to me at the contact details below, or directly to the principal or supplier — you will find their details on your confirmation documents.
If a complaint cannot be resolved and it involves InteleTravel or another ABTA member, you have the option of using ABTA's dispute resolution scheme, which is approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute. You can find out more at abta.com, or contact ABTA at 30 Park Street, London SE1 9EQ.
Where relevant, you should also contact customer services at InteleTravel UK, who will assist you alongside me.
11. Use of this website
The content on this website — including the guides, articles, photography and design — is provided for general information and inspiration. Destination guides describe places and experiences generally; they are not a quotation for any specific trip. Prices, availability and details are confirmed only in writing when a booking is made.
All content remains the property of The Latitude Compass or the relevant rights holder and may not be copied for commercial use without permission. Where this site links to a third-party website, that link is provided for your convenience and I am not responsible for its content. Third-party sites have their own terms and privacy policies.
12. Privacy and cookies
How I handle your personal information is set out in my Privacy Policy, and how this website uses cookies is set out in my Cookie Policy. Both are linked in the footer of every page.
13. Changes and governing law
I may update these conditions from time to time to reflect changes to my business or to regulations. The version that applies to your booking is the one published at the time you book, together with the InteleTravel UK terms that apply to your booking.
These conditions are governed by English law and the jurisdiction of the English courts. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may choose the law and jurisdiction of those countries instead.
